While still a blubbering mess, I picked up the phone and dialed Flynn’s number. I needed to hear his voice.
He sounded groggy. “Hello?”
“It’s me.” My voice was low to hide my emotions.
“Are you crying?”
It was easier to lie. “No, I’m fine.”
“Aria, you can’t hide that from me. Tell me what’s wrong.”
“There is something wrong with me, Flynn. I’m confused all the time. I keep making one bad decision after another. Maybe I deserve to be alone. Maybe you should have left a long time ago.”
“I stayed because I love you. I might have a shitty way of showing it, but I’ve love you for as long as I can remember. That’s never going to change, even if we’re not together.”
I sobbed on my end of the phone. It was so clear that Flynn was tired of my head games. “I’m so sorry for my part in this.”
“I deserved most of it I suppose. It’s not like I’m perfect. I made mistakes I wish I could take back; mistakes that hurt you beyond belief. I’d do anything to erase the things from your memory, though we both know it’s not possible. I keep thinking about everything, wondering the exact moment when everything went to shit. I talk to Dr. Ellis about this yesterday. She said…”
“Wait. What did you say? You talked to Dr. Ellis yesterday? Was it over the phone?” It was the weekend. She didn’t have office hours. Were my fears about them being together confirmed?
“No, I saw her. She was at the same place I was staying. She showed up yesterday and we went out to dinner.”
I couldn’t hear anymore of this. “I thought we were having a good conversation. I thought it was progress. The truth is you’re never going to change. This call was a mistake, but at least it’s proven you can never be trusted.”
“Aria, wait…”

I hung up and turned my phone off so he couldn’t call me back. Determined to leave the house before he could show up and tell me more lies, I started getting ready for the big event. Now more than  ever I wanted to rid myself of the hole he’d left in my heart. I was going to go through with my plans, and even guilt wasn’t going to stop me.

What a great diversion!

Very fast paced shifter romance, complete with passion and fighting lessons!  And now a bit about the story...

Cheyenne Snow has been promised to the awful Chuck Lord by her father if she can't find a suitable husband/mate in four months.  Since Chey's dad is the pack alpha her husband needs to be able to take over the cheetah pack, so this is no small task ahead of her.  When she decides all hope is lost she decides to have a spring fling to take her mind off the awful Mr Lord!  If only she could get her father to change his mind!!

Favorite passage: “I want to love you the way you deserve.”

Waking the Bear By Kerry Adrienne - 4 stars

Wake up sleeping head ;)

Prime Desire By Andie Devaux - 5 stars

Can their desires outweigh their fears?

Great story of never getting over that one night in college.  Characters and setting are well described, I feel like I'm hiking along with them.  And now a bit about the story...

Evie and Nicholas had a chance meeting once in a snowstorm.  He saved her and the night only got hotter from there.  Even years later they are both still thinking of it.  There is only one problem, the tiger.  Will they overcome their fears and doubts and trust in what they feel for each other or will they just keep running??

Favorite passages:
- “Seriously?” she asked, face alight with anger. “Did you forget where the gas pedal was? Or did you hope I would die of old age before we got here?”
- “It’s time to stop running.”

Bear Essentials by Lia Davis -5 stars

Stranger to Mated in zero to....

Great introduction to the bear den of Blackrock!! This story follows one of the alphas three sons.  All three are tall, hard bodied bears with striking blue eyes.  And now a bit about the story...

Can he keep the streak alive?

Great novella about finding and keeping love and growing up. Based in Lake Tahoe with a group of friends working at the Blue casino. I enjoyed this standalone novella so much I downloaded book one to start at the beginning. And now a bit about the story...

Nessa and Zach have been in the friend zone for over a year, even though they each want more. Can one drunken night alone in the hot tub change everything or will his past come back to haunt him?

Favorite passage: “I want you to be my future. I don’t deserve you, but I want you.”

Love begins with attraction and our attraction started in an online chat room. The beauty of the internet is you can be whoever you want to be. I can let my guard down and show who I really am. I’m no longer the shy girl who doesn’t fit in. I’m someone with a purpose, someone worth listening to. I’m someone worth loving. The world doesn’t need to know I’m only seventeen. One little lie about my age isnt going to hurt. Eli is everything I’ve ever wanted in a relationship. He’s funny, sweet and so damn sexy. We’ve never met, but our connection is strong. He wants to meet me and more than anything I want to meet him. I want to feel him in my arms, I want to see if our relationship is as strong in person as it is online. So we do. And it is. It’s wonderful and amazing and everything I hoped it would be. But in the chat room, I told a little white lie about something significant. And lies, however big or small, always catch up with you. Mine caught up with me in my History Classroom.

I HEART BOOKS REVIEW

Black Number Four by Kandi Steiner
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: 5

The games they play with each other's hearts threatens to flush and flop them down the river...

I fell for Kip in his nerdy glasses right from the start. He and Skylar's characters pull you right in with everything you want in a story. It is witty, fun, sad, crazy, humorous, and passionate!! I almost didn't want to finish it because then I would be at the end... and no one wants a his book to end, ever! And now a bit about the story...

Skylar is in the middle of her junior year in college. She is a sorority sister and professional poker player with an undeclared major. At spring rush she meets a transfer named Kip with an aversion to tequila. One thing leads to another and what started off as a simple romance is made complex by all the pressure put on both of them. The games they are playing are dangerous and people are bound to get hurt... try this one out yourself, it is a sure bet! And then you can see where all the chips fall ;)

Favorite passages:
- “Passion can be a dangerous thing.”
- “Can we stop talking about penis fly traps for like two seconds? This is serious!”
- “I like them because they work hard for what they want and need in life. They don’t let the threat of waves thousands of times larger than them crashing down stop them. They persevere, and it’s not easy – but they do it.”
- “Calm your tits, bossy pants. I’ve got a plan.”
- “Yeah, you better be sorry,” I say, turning toward the sunrise. “It’s half past early as fuck and we agreed to meet at the ass crack of dawn.”
- “I don’t deserve you, I’ll never be good enough for you, but I love you nonetheless.”
- “I’ll call you when things are squared away.”
- Love is wild and unruly and it does what it wants with our hearts without us having any say in it. It’s beautiful and paralyzing and breathtaking. And it kills us because it’s the only thing that keeps us alive. Love doesn’t play our games because love is a completely different game in and of itself.

We get to my apartment around noon and I throw together a couple of turkey sandwiches for us. By the time we finish eating, we’re both exhausted – both from paddleboarding and from not sleeping last night.
“Why don’t we take a shower and watch a movie?” I suggest as Skyler yawns.
“I don’t have any clothes here besides the ones I have on now and they’re all sandy.”
“You can borrow a pair of boxers and a shirt of mine.”
Skyler chews her lip, unsure. “I don’t know, I’m pretty tired.”
“So am I,” I say, standing and pulling her up with me. “So maybe we watch a movie and maybe we take a nap. Don’t leave yet. I barely see you during the week and I know there’s not many weekends where you don’t have sorority stuff going on.”
“I actually have a sisterhood event tonight.”
“See?” I pull her wrist and lead her toward my bedroom, which really is just my bed separated by hanging curtains on a rack. I rummage through my clothes until I find a clean shirt and pair of boxers, tossing them to her and pointing to the bathroom. “Towels are above the toilet in the cabinet, shampoo and shit’s in there.”
She still seems unsure, so I pull her into me and move the fallen strands of hair from her face. “Come on. Just for a few hours. You’ll feel better once you shower and I know you’re tired. You’re not going to get any sleep if you go home to your sorority house.”
At that she sighs and nods. “You’re probably right about that.”
I smile and nudge her toward the bathroom again.
“Fine,” she says. “But just for a little while. And no trying to ambush me in the shower, either.”
I hold up my hands in surrender. “I promise. You can shower in peace.”
“Mmm hmm,” she says, suspicious, but she walks to the bathroom and closes the door behind her.
I smile and start straightening my bed, turning on the TV to find something for us to watch. I’m flipping through the channels when I hear the shower turn on and the smile leaves my face. Suddenly, I’m completely aware of Skyler’s naked body in the other room.
Shaking my head, I focus on finding something to watch, willing my own body to behave. After a few minutes, I realize I’ve flipped through the channels three times now without stopping or even recognizing what I was seeing on the screen. I bite my lip hard, cross my arms, and pace.
Don’t do it. Don’t make this more complicated than it is. She trusts you, she’s opening up to you – that’s what you need from her. Poker. Poker. Poker.
That’s all.
I pace more. Back and forth. Back and forth. Before I know what I’m doing, my knuckles are knocking softly on the bathroom door. I have no idea what I’m going to say or what the fuck I’m doing, but I can’t stop my hands. The door opens slightly on the third knock, as if it wasn’t completely closed, and through the slit, I see Skyler.
She’s standing there shocked, her mouth open slightly as the water continues to drip down her body, running in rivers down over her breasts and meeting between her thighs. I swallow hard, unsure of my decision. I have nothing to ask, no reason to be staring at her through this door – but Skyler doesn’t cover herself, she doesn’t scream, she doesn’t tell me to get out.
I open the door a little further, still wondering what the hell I’m doing. I consider asking if she needs anything else, if she found a towel, something – but we both know I didn’t come in here to give her a towel.
“I suck at keeping promises,” I admit, just above a whisper, and I wish I could tell her I’m not just talking about the promise to not interrupt her shower.
“And I suck at pretending like I don’t want you.”

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.
