Escaping Destiny, book three of the Fae Chronicles, just blew my mind.
In order to understand what went on with Escaping Destiny, you will need to read the first two books, Fighting Destiny and Taunting Destiny first as Escaping Destiny picks up immediately from where Taunting Destiny ended.
Synthia finds out she is an Heir, and a member of one of the castes of beings who inhabit the land called Faery. She is “gifted” to the Horde King as settlement to an agreement her father, the Blood King, agreed to. Torn between fulfilling her family’s obligation and her need to be with one person she wants she struggles to submit to the Horde King’s demands and prays that her savior, Ryder, will swoop in to take her away. Yet everything is not what it seems to be. And the first three chapters had me gaping.
There is so much going on with this book – so much so that, if asked, I would have given the book the title Revealing Destiny. Relationships are not what they seem to be, and slowly but surely, Syn finds herself loving the land the people she once vowed to hate and eradicate, in spite of the jealous, petty fights and the score of women who are after her man.
There are many things I loved with this series. I truly relish and enjoy the banter and friendship between the Demon and Synthia, the brotherhood that the Fae Elite Guard has with their King. The repartee between Ristan and Synthia had me grinning each time they interacted. Synthia comes to her own in this book, and Ryder is slowly realizing that she is more than what she appears to be.
Technically, the book could vastly improve with the use of a strong red pen. The book is not technically flawless. Commas appeared where they should not be. Some words were mis-spelled; possessive pronouns were mis-used. Correct sentence construction and syntax help build up the anticipation of action and emotions. I know that Amelia works so hard to get a book out in our hot little hands as we are demanding readers who can’t wait. But I for one, would rather wait a few weeks while the editing is done, re-writes are completed to get a polished book in my hand.
The technical problems were distracting at first, but I strongly urge you to push past that. Push pass all that, and enjoy the story – for the story, the twists and turns and the surprises are all worth it. And oh, the love scenes? They are hot hot hot! There is one chapter in particular that just generates so much heat. Trust me. If not for the technical issues, this book would have rated 5 stars. It has hot sexy scenes, a plot that has twists and turns, a strong independent kind hearted and fair heroine, and a dominant strong willed loyal hero.
Don’t hesitate. Go grab your copy today. Meanwhile, I plan to re-read all three books while waiting for book 4.

- Wennie: Accdg to Wikipedia, fae is a humanoid mystical creature that wields great power in magic and elementals. What made you focus on a book series centered on the Fae?Amelia: I have always loved the Fae, and all the mystery that surrounds them. There are so many directions they can go, and so many takes on them that it makes them magical to write about.
- Wennie: Your heroine is a kick ass, strong woman. What made you decide to make her strong and almost as equal as the hero of the story?Amelia: Synthia came to me as his equal, and needed to be strong enough to keep him grounded. Ryder is hard, and has some jagged edges, but Synthia’s curves and personality seemed to balance him out.
- Wennie: The names of your characters are so unique - Ryder, Synthia, Ristan, etc. Where did you get their names? Do they have any ties to Irish lore?
Amelia: They actually popped into my head with names, and most of the others hold some ties to Irish and Scottish Celtic Folklore, there’s a lot of names used which are from tales of Old. - Wennie: Who, aside from your family, is your most staunch supporter?
Amelia: My Copy editor, Gina. She adores the story and is as invested in it as I am. - Wennie: Where do you get your inspiration from?
Amelia: My grandmother taught me from a very young age to use my imagination. I come from a family who struggled to make it. Most of my Christmas’s consisted of getting my older sisters toys. My grandmother bought me books, so books became my escape. When I started reading faster than we could buy new books, my grandmother told me to start writing my own. I picked the Fae as my favorite species at that time. - Wennie: You mentioned the series may go to 5, maybe 6 books. Do you foresee the story going beyond 6 books?
Amelia: No, I don’t. I have two other series I plan on writing. I also have character spin offs planned. I have so many stories inside my head, and more characters who want theirs told. - Wennie: How do you work your outline for the story? I see many twists and turns coming ahead. Do you know how the series is going to end?
Amelia: I write by the seat of my pants. I don’t know how the series ends any more than my fans. I know it ends with a HEA, but how it ends is anyone’s guess. - Wennie: Love the titles of your book end with the word destiny - fighting destiny, taunting destiny and escaping destiny. Are you sending a message that the story or tale is destined to be?
Amelia: No, it just seemed like Synthia was fighting it so hard, and Destiny is something everyone fights at some point. - Wennie: Will all the main characters survive? Are you planning a main character death?
Amelia: Hmmm, well it’s possible. Sometimes they show me a scene, like Ristan’s death, and it didn’t come with the outcome I wrote. I don’t think any of the main one’s will die, but the story changes and sometimes bad things happen to good people. - Wennie: Which character do you hold closest to your heart?
Amelia: Ristan, without a doubt. - Wennie: If you were to marry one of the characters, who would it be?
Amelia: I am unsure right now…there’s a lot to choose from. - Wennie: If your daughter were to fall in love with one of the chapters, who would you want her to be with?
Amelia: Uh, hmmm…I think it would have to be Adam, because he would have the humanity factor that the Fae lack, and my daughter would need it to be happy. - Wennie: What made you start writing this series? How did the idea of the storyline come to you?
Amelia: I’ve actually had the characters in my head for a very long time. Going on four years, eventually, I caved and allowed Ryder out to play. - Wennie: Why do tattoos play such a strong role in the series?
Amelia: Celtic warriors express their trials, and their strengths through them. The Fae in my world come from Celtic rumors, and stories so it just made sense to allow them to have Brands for each Caste. - Wennie: The idea of feeding and surviving through sex is quite outlandish, but very intriguing. How did you come up with that? It's the way the species survives so it becomes a very essential part of the story.
Amelia: Fae feed off emotion, all Lore says so. Being from an ancient race, I tried to figure out one thing that brought out the most emotion without a huge drama factor. Feeding from emotions during sex just seemed like the best way. - Wennie: What's the back story on Ristan? Do you plan to tell his back story in one book?
Amelia: He’s a complicated Demon for sure, and yes, he will have his own book. - Wennie: How do you challenge yourself as a writer?
Amelia: Every day. I make it a point to set outlandish expectations, and then I make myself reach them. - Wennie: Does your husband get jealous of the characters you write About?
Amelia: He got used to sharing our bed with my books, so when it came to me jumping out of bed to run to the computer at outlandish hours to write something down, at first he was thinking I should be medicated. When I showed him the book files that I was working on, he settled down and said go for it. - Wennie: What inspires you to write?
Amelia: My fans, and the need to get the stories out of my head and onto paper. - Wennie: Some writers mention that characters "talk" to them. Is this how you get close to your characters or develop them? If not, what technique do you use to develop characters?
Amelia: Absolutely. I argue with them, fight with them, and have a lot of imaginary friends. I watch them inside my head, and take a lot of notes until I have them figured out. - Wennie: If you were to cast yourself as one of the characters in your story in a movie, who would it be?
Amelia: I’m not like any of my characters. I’m socially awkward and would rather be seated at my computer writing, then doing anything else. None of my characters would do that lol.
