AUTHOR INTERVIEW
1.     Where do you get your story ideas?  Plot lines?
For Miss Match, a friend showed us an actual craigslist ad with the premise we used for the book. It blew our minds that someone had the chutzpah to post it, and we wanted to figure out what kind of guy that was- and how to make him likeable. In general, we both like to say, “what if?” a lot, and go from there. We’re also not worried about being super-realistic, so we can take our characters to outlandish places. It gives us more freedom.

2.     Do you base your characters on real people?  If yes, who are your characters based on?
Not exactly, but it occurred to us much later in writing Miss Match that Kayti and Andy have a lot in common, as do Laurelin and Blake. Sometimes putting your all into a story means literally putting yourself into a story, it turns out.

3.     Do you use your own experiences in the story?
Not quite as much in this book as in other things we’ve written. But there’s always elements, for example, Laurelin is a big pinball fan in real life.

4.     What is your writing process?  Do you write from an outline or do you shoot from the hip?
There’s a bit of both. When we started writing Miss Match in earnest, we had already sold it on proposal. That means that our publisher had our first three chapters, and a couple-page summary of the rest of the story. So we were all on the same page about what was going to happen plot-wise, but we like to surprise each other too. So certain things that Andy gets up to (no spoilers!) were written off the cuff just to make the other one laugh.

5.     Do you plan to write in another genre other than romcom?
Definitely! Laurelin’s previously published works like the Fixed series are much more angsty-romance. In December, her foray into romantic suspense comes out, First Touch. Kayti’s working on a solo romcom at current, but has a straight fiction novel outlined for next year. And when we met, we were both writing YA. So basically- we love to read all kinds of books, and write them as well!

Miss Match by Laurelin McGee
Review by Wennie Conedy
Stars: 5

They say it only takes 3 seconds to make a lasting first impression. And if that were true, in 3 seconds. Andrea Dawson pegged Blake Donovan as an ass. That was her first impression. Her second impression? He is a hot looking ass. Ok, that doesn't help does it?
In Miss Match, Blake Donovan is in search of a wife. That's right. Mega-Millionaire and toast of the town, CEO and owner of a successful IT company, and hottie Blake Donovan is looking for a life partner. And in true fashion for an IT entrepreneur, he conducts his search in a most unusual manner. He places an ad on Craig's list for a Personal Concierge, aka Wife Finder.
Enter Andrea Dawson. Down on her luck, Andrea is unemployed, lives with her sister, and no job prospects in sight, she is forced to consider a position with Blake Donovan. She has very little marketable job skills. The only thing she is good at is reading people, or should I call her a profiler. With this skill, she probably is the right person to help Blake find a wife. Or is she?
Blake doesn't make the job easy for her though.
"It was true that he didn't like ambitious women, and those with degrees tended to be. Many educated women also tended to have opinions, and those simply would not stand when his spouse was entertaining business associates. "
When presented with a possible candidate who is an active member of PETA, he vehemently rejects her. Why?
"PETA is for vegans. Vegans, Andrea ... Do you think I plan on dating this woman at salad bars ...?"
See? Ass. Yes?
The interaction between these two just had me in stitches. Especially when Andrea gets serious about finding her boss a wife. There's just a touch of Lucy Ricardo in Andrea as she comes up with all these mad situations to turn her boss from "jerkweed to man" - her words, not mine.
Between diabetic cats, feminists, bobs not boobs (well, that too), PETA advocacy, exotic women, puppies, and shoes, Miss Match will find you either giggling or belting out a guffaw.
I enjoyed reading this cleverly crafted romp between two people whose preconceived notions and biases prevent them from seeing what is right in from of their eyes. They are the perfect match, and Miss Match is a must summer read for me.

Tan Lines & Salty Kisses (A Chasing Carolina novella) by Danielle Jamie

Stars: 5

Secrets and surprises at the beach party!

It has been eight months since our Carolina Chasers met. Now they are back for a reunion and spring break in Daytona! This is the kick off to Parker and Becca's story...

Becca and Parker decided to go with the long distance relationship while Chase and Ashlynn are still joined at the hip remotely but seeing other people. This week long vacation is the first time they've seen each other since the past summer, with the exception of the Valentine's day surprise. Now they each have more shrouded surprises up their sleeves...

Favorite passage: “I’ve loved you I think since the moment I met your cocky, arrogant ass on the beach. If I remember correctly, you told me to remember your name because I’d be screaming it for all of Myrtle Beach to hear me. I knew right then and there I wanted to get you into my bed. But I had no idea in the process you’d wiggle your way into my heart— all I know is I’m so happy you did.”

*Books in series can be read as standalones*

Chase Kenzington loves two things: fast cars and women. At twenty-two, he has the entire world at his feet. With his father being Hank Kenzington, who is one of the best drivers in the Sprint Cup Series and his grandfather, Arnold Kenzington, a legend in Nascar, he's used to getting whatever he wants when he wants it.

When he and his friends decide to spend the summer at his father’s beach house in Myrtle Beach, he expects to spend it throwing parties on the beach and finding hot girls to hook up with. The last thing on his mind is finding a girl who’ll make him re-think everything.

Ashlynn Myers, along with a few sorority sisters, is heading to Myrtle Beach for four weeks of fun in the sun. The last thing she expects is to meet a guy while on vacation who will make her fall fast and hard before she even knows what hit her. When she meets Chase the chemistry between them is undeniable. The thing about summer and summer romances is that they both come with expiration dates. After summer ends you have to part ways and go back to your everyday lives.

What do you do when you think you’ve found your soulmate but you’re separated by hundreds of miles? Will Ashlynn and Chase be able to walk away from their summer fling and never look back, pretending that what they had for one month over the summer was nothing more than a hot summer hook-up?

WickedIndulgence

I’m the bad boy of rock.

I play hard and party harder, my life is every dude’s dream. Women throwing themselves at me, more money than I know what to do with and I get to do what I love. Perform. I thought things couldn’t get any better. I was right. I’m no stranger to controversy, a side effect of doing whatever the fuck I like, but maybe I’ve taken things too far this time. Being constantly in the spotlight is hard, especially when you’re on a downhill spiral and the only place left is rock bottom. The question is, how the fuck am I going to get myself out of this one?

First, let me introduce you to this brand new author.

Sarah Daley lives in Arizona with her best friend and husband, Chris, their adorable monster child, and neurotic dog.

At the age of six, she became a reading machine. Devouring everything she could possibly get her hands on. In high school she almost failed English three times because of her detest for writing book reports. Today, Sarah writes whatever stories haunt her dreams, and struggles to focus on one idea at a time. When she isn’t enjoying time with her family, or writing, you will find her nose stuck in a book, or out walking and enjoying the sunshine.

Now, for what Drowning Sandy is all about:

The water is calling...
and Sandy can no longer resist the urge to unleash her mermaid form. But a simple swim in Lake Ontario ends when she discovers the truth of her own banishment. When long time crush, Alardo, seems to shift in a direction she never dreamed possible, Sandy must make a choice — mermaid or human? Once she chooses, she can never go back.

Snippet

“Let me do some research, before you do anything, Sandy. I want to make sure no more laws are broken, okay?” He grabbed her upper arms and held her away so he could give her the eye-to-eye stare down. ”Promise me you won’t dive into this head first. Let’s do this the right way. Totally clean, okay?”

Sandy’s bottom lip popped out a little. But she nodded her head. Like dad always said, if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right. She could be patient and let Alardo find them a good solid loophole.

Sighing, I take my place in the same barstool as before and Jarrett slides a fifth drink my way.
I hold up my hands. “I should probably say no this time. It’s almost closing time and I need to drive.”
“Not necessarily,” he offers. I eye him curiously and the corner of his mouth pulls up mischievously. He finishes wiping down a glass and hangs it above his head before leaning across the bar, his minty breath tickling my drunken senses. “You’ve been trying all night to get with that douchebag when I could have told you from the beginning that he wasn’t available. And now, you’re left with an ache between your legs that you don’t want to take care of on your own. So yes, you could drive home, get up and go to work tomorrow and just try again another night. Or,” he pauses, licking his bottom lip and dragging his teeth across the top as his eyes fall to my mouth. “You could give me your keys, jump in my truck, and let me take you back to my place so I can cure you of your current situation.”
Oh hell to the fucking yes.

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.
Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).
When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.

Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: 5

Be prepared for tears.... but I loved it!!

I always read and set myself up as the main character. It is usually fun and carefree, but this story reminds me of all we have to lose. We should all live each day to the fullest. And now a bit about the story...

Aiden and Kiara are engaged and living a happy life with their 2 year old daughter, Tilly. Until one minute Aiden is there and the next he is in a coma. Three years later there is no hope for recovery, but Aiden's parents won't give up hope. Ellie, Kiara's sister, can't bear to see her sister just surviving, she wants her to live! When Kiara gets set up on a blind date behind her back, things start to look up, until they don't anymore... Can she find happiness?

Favorite passages:
- “If she’s half as amazing as you, then we’ve done our job right.”
- How can she go from flat-out tantrum mode to happy little girl in less than a minute? Oh, right: she’s five.
