S.K. Whiteside Blog Tour w/ IHB

Today we have the pleasure of being a stop on S.K. Whiteside's Blog Tour. We have an author bio, interview and an excerpt from her new release; INHERITANCE. So without further ado...

S.K. Whiteside Bio -

Writer and lover of all things dark and mysterious. Most of her stories have a background in Egyptian Mythology with a modern day adaptation and unique twist.

S.K. Whiteside is a Mythic Fiction writer of Contemporary Urban & Historical Fantasy. As a full time Mental Health Therapist, she started writing in Academia but decided writing about things on the "other side of the veil" was a lot more interesting. Living in the Paranormal capital of the world makes it fairly easy for her to come up with characters, many of which are based on of real personas in her life that she can't help but carry over into her writing.

Interview -

Most important thing about being a writer?
To Always Write

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Everything and Everyone around me. I can be in the grocery store and overhear a conversation and instantly it would remind me of something one of my characters could possibly say. Everyone at some point and time serves as my muse.

How do you cope if you get a bad review?
I just do. I mean it hurts, I am human after all but not everyone will like your work. Even if everyone likes it, not everyone will admit to it. The trick is to not take it personally. Even if the reviewer tries to take it there.

How do you choose your characters names?
Depends on the genre and book I am writing at the time. Mythic Fiction I have to do research. I want the names to reflect the character and their personality. For general writing of fiction (like my psycho thrillers) It’s whatever tickles my fancy. I am not picky with those.

Occupational hazards about being a writer?
Lack of sleep. I am ALWAYS exhausted.

What book or film character would you say you were most like?
If I had to choose I would say Dorina Barsarab from Karen Chance’s Midnight’s Daughter series. She is bad ass, takes no prisoners, and has a thing about rules…

What makes you laugh?
Sarcasm. Especially if its witty a la Frasier or BIG BANG THOERY!

Which book has been the hardest to write?
None of them have been particularly hard to write but Inheritance has been the toughest to put out. It was the first book I ever wrote and I was terrified to put it out in the world (still sort of scary having it out there).

Any hints as to what lies ahead for your characters?
There are a lot of surprises (some of which are hinted at in the prequel shorts) and the story gets a lot darker after book 2 but it doesn’t lose its banter.

Favourite character?
Syn/Sekhmet definitely. I have a thing for strong leads.

Least favourite?
I cant say without giving away part of the plot.

Which character would you like to meet in real life?
Echo. He would be a lot of fun. I have already met Malachi. He is just as much a handful in person as he is in the book.

Interview question you want to answer but no one has ever asked?
If your book ever became a movie would you make cameos like Stan Lee?

Your favourite authors?
J.K. Rowling, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Karen Chance, Richelle Mead, Megan Hart, oh god this list could go on and on.

Favourite book right now?
OMG. Debra Glass has this ghost romance story (and I absolutely hate romance novels) but its fantastic but she left it off on a cliff hanger so I am constantly badgering her to finish book 2.

What genres of books do you read?
EVERYTHING but romance (if I can help it).

Childhood book?
Box car children, Baby Sitters club, Sweet Valley High

Did you ever dream you would become an author?
Nope. Not officially but looking back on it, I guess something hinting at it had always been there.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Writing for a living. Right now I still work full time as a Therapist so I don’t get to write as much as I would like. I still have a TON of stories in my head.

Random questions -

Favourite colour?
Pink.

Favourite food?
Homemade Hamburgers

Best childhood memory?
Sitting in my room reading book after book.

Best ever purchase? Can be something big or small.
My very first laptop. A Dell.

Best memory as an adult?
Getting my first work published.

Is there a person, alive or dead, you dream about meeting if you could?
J.K. Rowling

Excerpt from INHERITANCE -

“Talk about hell on earth…”
Sekhmet’s life was pretty good; you know for a goddess. Her job was simple – kill those that sought to go against the creator. It was a job she was good at but unfortunately got a little too carried away with when she almost single handedly wiped out mankind. For her penance she has spent the last thousand years serving as one of the Guardians; a group of immortals that protect mankind and led by the Goddess Isis – who kind of had her own anger issues.
The Azura, a league of immortal bad asses, are literally trying to bring hell on earth and with it, Set – the banished God and ruler of the Makhaut. For the first time in history and with the help of the Makhaut, they may actually pull it off. Even the Guardians are at a loss.
In the Hail Mary of all attempts to save the world Isis, now going by Isira, sends Sekhmet to New Orleans, to find and protect the “Key” but when it is determined that a traitor lies among the Guardians, Sekhmet, now going by the name of Syn, is forced to seek help in the most unlikely of places…her least favorite person and fellow Guardian…Malachi.
