Summary
Ava Michaels used to think she was special.
As a child, she fantasized about having magical powers . . . making things happen. But Ava grew up and eventually accepted the fact that her childish dreams were just that, and maybe a normal life wasn't so bad after all.
Now a young college student, Ava meets Caleb Foster, a brilliant and mysterious man who's supposed to help her pass physics, but in reality has another mission in mind. What he shows Ava challenges her view of the world, shaking it to its very core.
Because Caleb isn't quite what he seems. In fact, he's not entirely human, and he's not the only one.
Together, the duo faces a threat from an ancient race bound to protect humans, but only after protecting their own secrets--secrets they fear Ava may expose. Fighting to survive, Ava soon learns she's not actually normal . . . she's not even just special.
She's a little bit more.

I HEART BOOKS REVIEW

More (More #1) by T.M. Franklin
Review by Wennie Conedy
Stars: 4.5

College freshman Ava Michaels is struggling to keep her scholarship; enter Caleb Foster, her Physics tutor. Caleb has a brilliant mind, but after a few strange encounters, Ava realizes that he not just above average, he is way beyond that.  Caleb has more than a passing interest in helping Ava with Physics. He was actually sent to evaluate her. What his bosses didn't count on is the fierce attraction and the protectiveness Calebs develops for Ava. But can Ava trust Caleb enough? Can Caleb convince her that he has her best interests at heart? Can Ava accept that she might just be like Caleb; that she might be a little bit more than an ordinary human?

MORE is a young adult novel told from the third person perspective with themes of betrayal, politics, order and disorder, friendship, familial ties, and trust.

T.M. Franklin draws the reader in by dropping just enough clues to keep the reader engaged and very much invested without revealing the entire plot. Just as you think you have everything figured out, she throws in a wringer.

Franklin develops characters who feel real in a futuristic world where both humans and more-than-humans interact and live together. The pacing is steady and quick; the plot development is solid. The story conflicts feel realistic, even in her other-than-normal world.

I really like this story and look forward to the second book of the series.

I HEART BOOKS REVIEW

The Guardians (More #2) by T.M. Franklin
Review by Wennie Conedy
Stars: 5

So now she knows.

Ava Michaels has accepted the fact that she's just not an ordinary human.

When Caleb Foster entered her life as her tutor, little did she know that her life was going to shift drastically; she is part of the First Race, and wanted both by them and by rogue factions.

Hunted down by the mysterious Council, Ava is faced with situations where her hidden powers manifest themselves. Lured by the false hope that the Council would leave her alone, Ava lowers her guard, not realizing that the Council is not the only group who want her.

Her budding relationship with Caleb is threatened when he mysteriously disappears and she is accused of a horrific crime. She needs help in finding Caleb and clearing her name, but who can she trust?

The Guardians, the second book in the MORE series, answers lingering questions from book one, deepens the plot in book two and sets up the stage for, what I hope, will be a great conclusion to the series in book three.

Franklin's characters continue to develop and grow as the series progresses. The most prominent character growth is that of Ava, who is forced to trust a person she previously feared. She finds her voice, her powers, and her spine as she develops the strength of character and conviction necessary to embark on her search for Caleb, and save her life.

Franklin has developed an alternate world where powers beyond that of humans are considered normal, but where political ambition, deceit, friendship, and love remain as consistent as they are in the human world. There plot and story continues to develop and grow, and I look forward to all the loose ends being tied up in book three.

I HEART BOOKS REVIEW

Twelve (More #3) by T.M. Franklin
Review by Wennie Conedy
Stars: 5

Twelve is the third and final book in the MORE trilogy. In the past two books, Ava found out she was more than human, and possesses immense power. She found her soul mate, realized her potential, learned she was hunted, and was sired by an evil criminal. She has also learned that she is part of the Twelve, with genetically designed DNA to make them … more.

All she wants is to start a new life with Caleb Foster, but finds herself caught up in a conspiracy. She finds herself being forced to do what is against her nature. In order to defeat the enemy, she and Caleb find themselves forging alliances with former enemies and seeking out new partnerships.

Twelve, the final book in the MORE trilogy, delivers a story with punch, a lot of action and edge-of-your-seat anticipation. Just when you think you can predict what is going to happen, T.M. Franklin takes you down another path that has you scratching your head and ratcheting concern for the fate of Ava and Caleb.

The love story between Ava and Caleb, as integral as it is to the story, takes a back seat in this third book, where the needs of the many outweighs the wants of the few.

I have always taken the position that writing creates a beat and a rhythm that dictates the pacing and flow of a book. In Twelve, the beat is fast, sometimes staccato, sometimes frenetic, but always consistently delivering the action that the story demands.

T.M. Franklin successfully created characters that stand out and make an impression. There are secondary characters that continue to live with me – Tiernan, most specially. I would have loved to see more of the banter between Tiernan and Ava, and in case T.M. Franklin decides to do a sequel, I hope Tiernan makes an appearance.

T.M. Franklin has successfully created a believable world. A world where genetically designed individuals use their special powers for the fight of good versus evil. A world where enduring love is possible, where enemies can become allies and friends, and where love, truth and doing the right thing prevail.

This is a YA series that I would definitely recommend for all ages.
