Two ordinary people. Develop an unconventional, flirty friendship. They met over a fence. They talk over a fence. One feeds the other over the fence. They have never met face to face. They also share one more thing. They each have secrets. Will their unwillingness to open up stop them from going further with their relationship?
Melanie Moreland has crafted a story with very relatable characters. Nathan could very well work in your IT department, and Kourtney could be your single neighbor who lives about two doors down from you. Characters come alive for me when their different personality quirks come through. Just like Nathan and his obsession with Kourtney's socks. Or Kourtney, with her inability to understand anything that deals with technology.
Over the Fence is one of Melanie's lighter stories. It is easy to read, and you find yourself drawn to the story and the characters. When each of them finally reveal their secret, both Nathan and Kourtney find it in their hearts to accept the other without any equivocation.
"You always call your place next door, or over there, never home, or even my house. Why?"
"That's not my home, Kourtney. It's only the place I was living while I was waiting for you to find me. You're home to me."
And that is where the charm of this story lies. Two ordinary people, develop an extraordinary friendship over an eight-foot-high fence. They get to know each other quite well, forgive each other for mistakes, and work together to overcome their past and secrets; because they both realize that what they have together is quite extraordinary.

About the Author
Melanie Moreland lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her husband and four children. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them. Known as the quiet one with the big laugh, Melanie works for the sporting teams of a local university. Her (box) office job, while demanding, is rewarding as she cheers on her team to victory. While seriously addicted to coffee, and somewhat challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties and socialize, and also enjoys traveling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip. Melanie delights in writing a good romance story with some bumps along the way, but is a true believer in happily ever after. When her head isn’t buried in a book, it is bent over a keyboard, furiously typing away as her characters dictate their creative story lines to her even more inspired tales, for all to enjoy.
