Now, it's a new year and Karrie's ready to build herself back up and move on to bigger and better things. Still, a little revenge would go a long way in helping the healing process. Sergeant of Arms of his frat and the ability to land any chick within snapping distance has made life pretty easy for him. His home life is another story. Ridge is looking for a stand-in to placate his mother and her matchmaking ways, and he has a feeling he's just met the girl he can perfectly mold. Frat House Confessions: Ridge by Bethany Lopez
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Here's to partners in crime!

College frat house lift anyone?  This story starts off in pledge week, a Sargent at Arms needing to keep his position and his mom off his back and a scholarship athlete trying to make her ex jealous.  What better way that supporting the pledge makeover routine?  They just have a deal, right?  No feelings! And now a bit about the story...

Ridge cannot stand Crush, or his crazy pledge missions, but he decides to play along when he sees Karrie at Delta.  Karrie's boyfriend broke up with her and she hasn't tried to do anything since, until her roommate convinced her to go out, though she refused to put any effort into it.  Not wanting to lie, he's direct with Karrie and tell's her his whole plan, he'll get what he wants, she'll get what she wants, win-win.  But will they both get more than they were expecting???

Favorite passage: Bringing those feelings to light would be treading in dangerous territory.

What happens when the lights go out in the city that never sleeps? Games of chance, unexpected situations, and hours of sin! Thirteen bestselling and award-winning authors are turning up the heat in an anthology featuring brand-new show-stopping stories set in Las Vegas. Roll the dice and get ready to feel the heat!

Night Games by T.K. Leigh: Note to self: Never agree to play an innocent dice game during a blackout in Vegas. I should have known it wouldn’t remain innocent, not in the city of sin.

Night & Day by Bethany Lopez: One explosive weekend together nearly ruined them. But, there's no way Simone and Micah can ignore their chemistry when they're alone in the dark.

Close Encounter by Stephanie St. Klaire: The day started with a quick screw, a couple of quirky two-bit cons and ended with a diabolical serial killer. What do you do when the lights go out? Run.

Absolutely Mine by Terri E. Laine: I made a promise to stay away from my best friend’s little sister. But it’s Vegas and that’s one promise I’m probably going to break.

Honeymoon Hideaway by Cary Hart: What’s worse than being locked in room with a vibrating bed and your sworn enemy? Waking up next to him… naked! Did I mention he’s also my boss? Oops.

The Do-Over by Christi Barth: The best way to move on after being dumped? A hot fling. An even better way? Revenge sex and the chance to turn the tables on the guy who dumped you...

Just Us by J.H. Croix: Ellie asks me to promise her one thing. We can’t tell her brother about us. Small problem though. One night will never be enough.

Dirty Thoughts by C.A. Harms: He was the crush I never thought I’d see again. Yet here we were in Vegas, during a total blackout. I figure why not explore all the possibilities, or more like let him explore me?

Hard Luck by K.A. Ware: Ellis James is my kryptonite, the only person who could drag me back to Vegas after I promised myself I was done with that life. I'd bleed for her, I'd die for her, but can I save her?

Becoming His by K.I. Lynn: When I slammed into Hollywood heartthrob Reid Gallagher, I never imagined it would turn into a first date I’d never forget. After all, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas...right?

Going Down by Lisa Shelby: She’s the only person I’ve ever loved and I’m the last person she wants to see. She’d hoped to avoid me as much as possible in Vegas, but when we get stuck alone in an elevator, not even she can deny that our chemistry still runs hot.

Blind Faith by Lauren Runow: I never expected to be locked out of my room basically naked in a total blackout. Thinking that would be the biggest shock of my night was my first mistake.

Eleven Eleven by Leddy Harper

I Heart Books Review

Flesh into Fire (Original Sin #3)  by J.A. Huss & Johnathan McClain
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Is she crazy...

This review does have spoilers from the previous books in the series (Sin with Me and Angels Fall), but not this story. They start right where they left off... attending funerals for Pete and Jeff (the firefighter who died looking for Pete). This story shows us the crazy/brave side of Maddie. As with the first two books there is terror, humor and hot sex scenes!! Plus educational, don't roll your eyes, many words I have to look up that are not so common in today's world. And now a bit about the story...

Pete's is gone, touched by Logan. Maddie still owes Carlos and now has no job. She won't let Tyler just pay Carlos off, so now what? She connects up with a DEA agent working undercover to bring Carlos down. Only two problems 1) Carlos is in love with Maddie and she detests him and 2) Tyler is super jealous and paranoid. Which makes for one comical story... watch how this flesh turns into fire!

Favorite passages:
- The best waterpark ride in history.
- “Not everything always happens for a reason. Sometimes things just… happen.”
- He’s unpredictable. And if unpredictability doesn’t get you killed, it makes you strong.
- “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”

Excerpt

TYLER

I roll our interlaced fingers over so that I can see the back of her hand. It’s strong, but delicate. Long fingers and white skin. Veins that tense with the clench of her grip. Freckles. Just a few light, faint, perfect freckles.
I have the same thought I had the other day. That I want to learn her. Her body. Every millimeter of her. I want it burned into my brain. I want to imprint her into my memory before she goes. I want to study her. I want to have a PhD in Maddie Clayton.
I let go of her hand and stand up, turn to face her and then kneel down.
“What are you doing?” she asks.
I don’t say anything. She’s not wearing shoes, so I start tugging at the toes of her socks and she giggles as I work them off her legs and then hold her precious feet in my hands, examining them. I stroke the bones that run along the top, ending at the tips of her toes, and I kiss each toe one by one.
I turn them over to inspect the scar I found the other day, and I give it a kiss. Then I spread her legs and slide in between them, popping my head up to give her a kiss on the lips, before I unbutton her jeans and draw down the zipper. She leans back, propping herself on her elbows, and shimmies her hips as I pull her pants down. They’re so tight on her, so fitted, that they draw her underwear along with them as I pull, and then the pants are off her body and on the floor, and her bare calves, and knees, and thighs, and pussy are there for me to explore.
Still leaning back on her elbows, she tilts her head to the side, presses her lips together in a tight smile, and raises her eyebrows at me.
I lift one of her legs and place my face right next to it. Like an archaeologist exploring the contours of a priceless, ancient artifact.
Her smell. Her smell will be the thing that I know I will hold onto most. It’s always been that way for me. Smell is the most potent sense I have when it comes to triggering memories. When I smell cinnamon, I remember my mom. Because she was baking when she collapsed that last time after chemo. And so that’s the smell I choose to associate with my final memory of her, as opposed to the antiseptic smell of the hospital. Because that wasn’t her anymore anyway. Mom stayed in the kitchen. Only the shell of her stuck around for a couple weeks more in the hospital bed.
Anyway.
Right now, Maddie smells like freshly cut grass. She’s been packing and getting ready to leave all day, and it’s been weirdly warm of late, so she’s a little sweaty. And that smell—that pungent, dense, round smell of sweat on her skin that fills my nostrils—reminds me of summer. Which I love. Because I suppose that means that for the rest of my life, there’ll be an entire season where every day all I’ll be able to think about is her. Even though I don’t imagine needing a lot of prompts to steer my thoughts in her direction.
As I stroke my fingers along her leg, kissing as I go, and drinking in her scent with every breath, she drops down from her elbows, letting herself lie flat on her back, her legs dangling off the side of the bed. She traces her fingers up and down the line of her stomach, pushing her t-shirt up to the curve of her breasts as I continue my survey of her flesh.
I’m discovering things. Things that no one else on earth besides me will know.
Her right calf appears just infinitesimally stronger than her left. Her left knee is the teeniest bit knobbier than her right. And when I kiss her behind either of her knees, she shudders through her stomach, causing her toes to crinkle.
As I pass the bend in her knee, I draw my nose along the inside of her thigh. She wriggles a teeny bit as my beard moves along her soft skin. And then my mouth is right at the brink of her entrance. I take my thumb and run it along the pink folds and she lets out a “mmmmm.” I tilt my head, studying my fingers as they massage her tender skin, and take note of what sound each gesture evokes from her.
Kissing tenderly on her opening causes her to growl from somewhere deep inside her throat. So I do. I kiss, and I let my warm breath signal my presence, but I don’t want to penetrate her. Not this way. If she wants me to be inside her, I will happily oblige, but for now I just want to be here with her and hold her close.
And I will.
And I will hold her close in my thoughts every second that she’s gone.
But more importantly...
I will hold her in my heart.

MADDIE

Some people search their whole life looking for that one place they belong. For that one person who gets them. Who brings them into their world, lets them fall easily into the pull of their gravity, and lets them just… be. Just exist. Quietly. Naturally. Freely. This is Tyler for me. The center of my universe. The man around whom I now orbit.
Not like a satellite, either. But like… like two things meant to be one. Like long ago something crashed into us, broke us into little pieces, and left us adrift. Floating in directionless space. Spinning wildly with no tether. And now we’ve been pulled back together. And we circle each other, still spinning, but with the purpose of joining. Of becoming one thing again. Not because of tragedy, the way I’d imagined when I sent that letter. It’s not a lifeline of salvation connecting us now, but some force of nature we can’t explain, or control, or bend to our will. Some law of the universe that dictates the fate of things.
We are connected by something more powerful than shared sorrow. And every moment we’ve spent apart has been valuable. Necessary. Critical.
His mouth between my legs feels wonderful. I could close my eyes and enjoy it. Let myself reach the heights of pleasure.
But alone?
No. I’m done doing things alone. We’re connected now. And everything we do will be together.
So I whisper, “Tyler,” as I caress his head. Run my fingers through his hair. Touch his shoulders. Slide my fingertips up and down the hills and valleys of his muscular arms.
He looks up at me, his eyes smiling even though they’re half closed, even though his mouth is still working. His tongue still flicking against my pussy.
“Come up here,” I say. “And kiss my mouth.”
Now he smiles with his whole face. His hands plant on either side of my hips and he draws himself up to standing. He lifts his t-shirt over his head and undoes his jeans, letting them fall to the floor, and his nakedness reminds me that he has lived every single day of his time on this earth.
He leans onto the bed and eases forward. My legs open wider for him, welcome him between them as his cock—hard, and long, and ready—rests against my clit, making me want him.
If we stopped right now, if he just rested his chest on top of my breasts, became nothing more than heavy weight as he closed his eyes, relaxed, and fell asleep… I’d be content, happy, and satisfied.
And not because there’d be more chances to do this later. But because it’s him I want. Not the sex.
He leans down, his hands on either side of my head now. Bending the mattress the way spacetime bends around a sun. And when his lips reach mine, my eyes are closed.
And I fall again.
I fall far, and long, and easily. The same way I drifted towards him. And as I drift, weightless, we kiss. But I’m still connected to him. Always next to him. Because this is what it feels like to fall into someone, not away.
This is not me slipping down the mountain.
This is not me losing my footing.
This is me finding myself. In him. In us.
So when I reach my hand between my legs and place him right where he needs to be, he enters me. And all those broken, spinning pieces come together to once again create the thing we were always meant to become.
Our bodies move together. Perfectly synchronized. Like the dance of stars in space. His body is hot, and my body is hot, and the heat we create between us doesn’t burn like fire but rearranges us. Like the molecules of two metals mixing to form the strongest sword made of the very best steel.
Our lovemaking is slow. And perfect.
We reach the heights of pleasure together. As one. And it’s the kind of climax that only happens once in a lifetime. The kind of release that means more than the way it makes you feel. It tells you who you are, and who you’re with, and exactly where you fit in the grand scheme of things.
He says, “I love you, Madison.”
And I say it back. “I love you, Tyler.”
We mold ourselves into each other as we relax and grow sleepy. Our bodies back together. His arms around me. My back pressed against his chest.
Our hearts beating. Keeping time.
Becoming what we were always meant to be.

Sin with Me (Original Sin #1) by J.A. Huss & Johnathan McClain
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Devil in disguise...

Book one of four to be released every three weeks. There are cliffhangers in this one, but it is a short wait for the next. I love how the characters think to themselves and sometimes even out loud, often to the point of rambling, seems so realistic. They are funny and quick to the point even when dealing with awful situations. And now a bit about the story...

Tyler (aka Ford) and Maddie (aka Scarlet) are both in bad places in their lives. They are very different but at the same time, very much alike. They have a strange beginning, almost strangers with benefits. But as they start to want more everything goes crazy. Can these two strangers get to know each other or will the knowledge tear them apart.

Favorite passages:- And besides, I’m stubborn. I like to think stubbornness is my great superpower.- Do they call them strippers or dancers? Artisans of Pole Manipulation? I’m gonna call them that.

Angels Fall (Original Sin #2)  by J.A. Huss & Johnathan McClain
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The fall to rock bottom...

From the penthouse high above Las Vegas to the tunnels under the Hoover dam, Tyler and Maddie are back! This review does have spoilers for book one (Sin with Me), but not this story. They start right where they left off... Tyler in his burning apartment and Maddie in Carlos car headed to the desert. The series could have ended then, with them both dead, but what fun would that be? Instead Julie and Johnathan take us on a hilarious adventure with the characters continuing to search for love, forgiveness, and understanding. There are a few surprises, both good and bad, along the way. And now a bit about the story...

Tyler is rescued by his friends at the fire station, after a three minute chat with God himself. Of course he wants to chase after Maddie, but since he flat lined for those three minutes, he's off to the hospital for a full checkup. Maddie on the other hand heads back to Pete's. She's sure her car and purse are stolen so where else is there to go? Except Carlos is there waiting and he wants his money or something... Luckily she is able to negotiate more time. Now just to decide how to spend that time. She needs $185k and has to decide what to do about Tyler now that she knows he isn't Ford.

Favorite passages:
- It’s going to be okay, the angel counters.
- It strikes me suddenly that people sigh around me a lot. Like I make the whole fucking world exhausted.
- “It ain’t Starbucks. If you don’t steam the milk, there’s a buncha other girls who’ll heat it up instead.”
- And late is always better than never.

We’re both stubborn, calculating, and controlling.
Mark Dixon doesn’t know what he’s getting into. He doesn’t know his games could cost us our lives. I have to do what is necessary to keep us alive, and that means guarding my heart.
But I know I’m defenseless against him, and in the end, he’ll force me to surrender.

“I made you a promise, Charlie.” Mark’s already deep voice is layered with desire.
Once again, my control begins to slip. “What’s that?”
His hands drop a little lower beside my head. His lower body shifts so his knee is between my legs. I feel his arousal against my thigh.
My traitorous body shows its own awakening. My nipples hardening through the silk material don’t go unnoticed. Heat pools in my core and my breath hitches. I want him. There’s no use denying it.
“I told you I’d kiss you again. If you don’t stop me now, there’s no getting away.”
I should stop him. I need to stop him. There’s no way in hell it’s going to happen, though. I’m craving his lips again.
He gives me one second before he crushes his mouth against mine. His entire body shifts forward, and now I’m trapped. There’s nowhere to go. Nowhere to move that’s not Mark. He takes every part of my mind and body. Our hands roam each other as his tongue slides against mine. Passion ignites between us; it sets the room on fire. His fingers cup my neck and then glide down the front of my dress. His hand brands my skin as he takes his time exploring the open skin between us.
My fingers grip the lapels of his tux, holding him, molding him to me. I can’t get close enough. Our mouths stay fused as we both lose control.
Then my mind snaps.
I push back and my hands fly to my lips. They’re swollen, bruised from the force of the kiss. His hands brace against the wall. I keep my eyes downcast. I can’t believe I just did that, against the damn wall, at a ball commemorating my father.
I shift my dress, rake my fingers through my hair, and pull myself together.
“Charlie . . .” Mark finally speaks. It sounds like shouting even though it’s only loud enough for us to hear.
“That was the last time that will ever happen,” I say with no tremor to my voice. “Tonight we become partners. It’s not about whatever this is.” I shift my hands between us. “It’s about finding the information we’re both searching for.”
“And what if we find something else?”
“We shut it down. There’s no room for feelings in this world.”
Mark pushes back, giving me space. I instantly feel cold. “Okay, then. Have it your way.”
This is what I wanted, what we both need, but suddenly I wish it wasn’t. I wish I could pull him close, kiss him, fuck him, and just feel.
But wishes are for little girls.

Terrific Military Romance

Tumultuous and terrifying all at the same time.  The main characters play well off each other and are bossy and tough, but with a heart of gold.  Sometimes you know exactly what will happen next and then all of a sudden you are going in a different direction.  This story will keep you on your toes to the end!  And now a bit about the story...

The story starts deep in the middle of a rescue mission.  An insider has contacted them about their missing teammate.  From the minute Mark sees Charlie he wants her.  They both have secrets, heck secrets are their world.  Can Mark win her over? Will her secrets and fears destroy them or protect them or leave them defenseless??

Favorite passages:
 - “Oh, come on. Sharks are just misunderstood. They want to be friends, cuddle a little, or maybe it just wants a hug .” Mark is enjoying this a little too much.
 - “I want that too, but this won’t be easy.”“Nothing worth anything is ever easy.”

 - But my life has consisted of choices, and those choices have consequences.
