Blurb

An irresistibly steamy college sports romance.

I’m Heath Taylor. Laid back. Easy going. Fastest guy on two skates and chill to a fault. Until Kara.

Three nights together and I’m done for. Her laugh, her smile, the way my hand curves around her waist. She’s the one. Not a doubt in my mind...until I walk into my last class of the semester.

Kara, the woman of my dreams, is my new instructor. My hockey season and her career prospects are on the line. One false move--if anyone finds out--we’re both sunk.

On the ice I’m a beast that can’t be stopped, but thoughts of her are throwing me off my game. My fingers itch to feel her in my arms again. But risking everything could ruin what we’ve worked so hard for.

Sometimes life has a way of changing the best laid plans. And sometimes you can’t stay away no matter the promises you make.

Life doesn’t play fair, but neither do I…

Reckless Kings (Kings of Rittenhouse #2) by Maya Hughes
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Protective King, even it is kills him...

The Kings are back for the final season, at least for most of them.  While you can read this story standalone and not be lost, if you want to join the team from the beginning I would start with Kings of Rittenhouse.  This story will have you laughing, crying, swooning, and groaning.   And now a bit about the story...

After fall semester exams and a surprise letter in the mail, Kara needs to blow off some steam.  But she waited to long to make plans and her friends are already on the train to the city.  Never one to not go for it, she heads to the local bar by herself.  Heath and the other Kings are all back together again and taking up half the bar.  While his friends seems to think he is a player, he spends more time on the ice and with his plants that playing the field.  But when his eyes connect with Kara as she walks in, he knows she is different.  After a couple awesome nights they can't keep their hands off each other.  Until Heath has to switch his schedule and then Kara becomes his teacher.  How will the two handle this forbidden relationship?  If they are caught he could be disqualified from playing and it could haunt her career as a teacher the rest of her days.

Favorite Passages:
 - Don’t wait for other people to do your own thing; go for it, even if it was all alone.
 - “Life has a way of blindsiding you when you least expect it.”
 - If you care about someone, you protect them.

All the kings horses and all the kings men...

An explosive start to Shameless King, seeing what their high school selves were like. Many characters to keep track of, but the main starts shine thru. And now a bit about the story...

Our characters are still a bit of a mystery. We know they don't have the charmed life the other thinks they have. However we don't know the full story. High strung, former sister who used to have it all battles with preppy hockey player who never has had it.

Favorite passage: It was like a museum had been taken over by a frat party.

What a difference 4 years makes!!

Be sure to read the free prequel, Kings of Rittenhouse, first. The Kings are back this time as seniors in college.  Mostly based in Philadelphia the story follows the high school jock raised by a single mom and the smarty pants ice queen who has never recovered from her brother's death.  The story flows before your eyes like a movie.  Excited for the others Kings in the series to come out!  And now a bit about the story...

Declan has one more year of school, then he can graduate and join the pros.  Just two things stand in the way 1) his intimidating sperm donor and 2) surprising news that he failed sophomore seminar.  Mak has just got more bad news, her dad has a terminal diagnosis.  She packs up from Standard and heads home, only to end up as the second senior in sophomore seminar.  When they are forced to work together the sparks fly.  Can he focus to get back on the ice? Can she chill and learn to live?

Favorite passages:
 - “What? Making out? It’s something people do, Mak. Please tell me you’re not still a virgin.” She snapped my butt with a kitchen towel. “Mom!” I yelped with my eyes wide.
 - Pop music played in the background , and glasses clinked behind the bar. She would hate trying to study in this place. She loved her den of solitude back in the library where it was so quiet you could hear a mouse fart.
 - “You’re the most prepared and capable person I know. I’m sure you’re already weeks ahead in everything you have to get done.”
 - “Yeah, there’s a certain someone who’s about to know exactly how it feels to have a size ten skate shoved right up their ass.”
 - “There are these things people tell sometimes and they’re called jokes. You might have missed the memo.”
 - When the hell were those two ever going to just hash it out? Fight. Fuck and forgive. Probably never, but this wasn’t the time to get wrapped up in their drama.
 - Seems to me that you probably need to talk it out.” Why does he have to be so infuriatingly right so much of the time?
 - He was the monkey wrench in the order of my life.

Falling hard...

Fast paced love story about the girl next door.  This story takes place in Florida with alternating points of view.  Spunky high school graduate and her best friend's older hunky brother who is home early from college.  It's not all roses though, there's his ex, her current not boyfriend, and the fact that he hasn't been home in almost 3 years, and has distanced himself.  Now the story is the struggle to get passed these things.  And now a bit about the story...

Hunter has just returned home with hopes of wooing his girl back to him.  They had always been good friends and it wasn't until he left for college that he realized he loved her.  But she was too young then and it scared him.  Now after over 3 years his little B has grown up.

Bailey loves the Miles family, she spends almost as much time at their house as her own.  Now if only Emily's boyfriend's brother would get the hint she isn't interested.  She wants to be Emily's sister, but not that way.

Read and see how he hunts down his love and claims her heart, when it all started with just a kiss.

Favorite passage: “Just keep in mind that perfection is a notion that’s unrealistic.”

Excerpt

“Why?” It came out harsher than I intended, and immediately I felt bad. At once, my body lost some of its rigidness.
Bailey fidgeted, swallowing hard, her hands going to the edge of her tank top and scrunching the material—twisting it in her tiny hands while one foot tapped the hardwood beneath her.
She’d changed, and to be honest, I didn’t know which outfit was more of a danger to my mental stability. My cock was hard at the sight of her in this simple and sweet sleep set. Wept at the taunting way the material highlighted every curve I hungered to taste.
It wasn’t anything risqué or made to be provocative, and that’s what made it sexy.
Shorts—soft, and in a light pink cotton with a matching top. The fabric molded onto her curves like a second layer of flesh in the most delicious way.
“Why what?” she whispered, bringing me out of my perusal of her lithe form.
Her evasive answer wouldn’t do, and I took in a deep breath. I decided to change my approach. “Why does she think you kissed him, baby girl?” I asked again, tone much softer. The subtle hint of huskiness caused her breath to catch. For her pupils to dilate a tiny bit. “Answer me, little B. Why does she insist on you being his?”
And while her reaction to my presence placated me, it took everything within me to not spit that out, dripping in the acid that churned in my gut. Just the thought of her being with anyone was pushing against the invisible thread that held my sanity.
Bailey’s green orbs narrowed. She tried and failed to look offended by my question. However, at the corner of her plump lips was a small hint of a smile. “That’s none of your business, Hunter.”
“Defiance isn’t in your best interest, Bailey,” I countered, taking in the small shiver that rushed up her spine. “Everything that has to do with you is my business.”
“Since when?” Placing her hand on her hip, she cocked her head to the side with an arched brow. “Three and a half years have gone by, Miles, and barely a word. One email conversation, and a handful of calls. That’s it. In my eyes, our friendship is tentative at best.”
I almost smiled at the use of my last name. Whenever she was annoyed with me, I was Miles.
“And I’ll apologize for that misconception.” Standing up, I locked eyes with her. Made sure that she saw the want—the truth in my stare—while I made my way across the room. She swallowed and took a step back, but for each one of hers, I’d take two. Didn’t stop until there was but a mere inch of separation between her body and mine. A stray curl caught my eye, and I reached out to place it behind her ear, my fingers skimming down the side of her neck. “But we will never be estranged, sweet girl. Never could be strangers when we share so much history together.”
“Shared. Past tense…” didn’t miss the breathiness in her voice. “…I don’t know you anymore.”
I devoured the sight of her chest rising and falling with each exaggerated breath. The way her nipples tightened, pressing against the thin fabric of her top. How the goosebumps on her skin spread, having nothing to do with the room’s temperature.
She wanted me closer. Welcomed this pulsing need that flowed between us.
Inhaling deep, I took the subtle scent of vanilla into my lungs and hissed as an electrical pulse rushed through my every nerve ending. It settled on the swollen tip of my dick. My chest expanded with the act and her eyes wandered lower, down my torso, and then paused at my throbbing erection.
Bailey licked her lips, and I smirked. “Eyes up here,” I crooned low, and green eyes met grey. There was no mistaking her labored breathing nor the heavy-lidded look of desire she wore. Something I’d use to my advantage to make baby girl mine. “I’m only going to say this once, so pay attention.” She nodded, and I leaned down to her level, placing my lips next to her ear. “For most of my life you’ve been that adorable little girl who slept over and was my sister’s best friend. My friend. But tonight...fuck—tonight, when you walked in and our eyes met, that reality ceased to exist. That tiny beauty I knew morphed into a beautiful woman that I plan to get to know. Romance, and then someday soon...own. Because I will. Of that I have no doubt.”
“Hunter, I…”
Placing a finger over her lips, I silenced her. “No more words. Let me show you with actions.” My lips skimmed down her neck and nipped her collarbone before walking out of the living room and up the stairs. Left her standing there dazed and immobile.
I’d laid a lot on her tonight, and she needed to process. Accept her new reality.
That Hunter Miles was going to woo the fuck out of her.
