Excerpt

Panicked, I sit up, gaping in disbelief at the person standing in the doorway. I grasp at the sheet, I frantically try to cover the most crucial bits of me, while feeling completely mortified. He, on the other hand, can’t wipe that damn smirk off his face.
What the fuck?
His head cocks sideways and his lips twitch into an even bigger grin that I’d probably find sexy—if I wasn’t two knuckles deep and showing him more of me than any guy has seen of me in a long time.
“Well, I have to say,” he drawls in a low, husky voice, “women do a lot of shit to try to get my attention, but this is definitely up there as the most original.”
I can’t even comprehend what he’s saying, because I’m frozen on the spot and trying to work out what the hell he’s doing in my room. Is this some kind of sick joke? Is he planning on attacking me? My eyes dart to the phone on the wall, but they switch back to him when he walks closer.
Fuck.
He steps out of the shadows, giving me a better look at his face and—
Double fuck.
What the heck is the lead singer of The Vision doing in my hotel room?
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, so my body decides to do both. I can’t think straight, but I’m doing my best to stop freaking the fuck out so I can try to figure a way out of this mess. I’m so unbelievably embarrassed. And naked, apart from this flimsy sheet. I should probably get dressed. The problem is, doing anything at this point feels impossible.
“So, do you speak?” he asks, jolting me out of my thoughts. “I mean, we’ve established that you can moan quite well.”
Oh God.
“I had a friend once, who was mute,” he muses, “we drifted apart because our conversations were always very one-sided.”
“I am not mute,” I snap, glaring at him.
“Great, then you can start by telling me what you’re doing.” He laughs and rubs his jaw. “I mean, it’s pretty obvious what you were doing, I’m just not sure why. Not that I didn’t appreciate the show,” he quickly adds. “Trust me, I did.” His dark eyes flash with amusement. “It’s refreshing to meet a girl who doesn’t mind opening herself up.”
What the ever loving fuck…?
How can he casually crack jokes like he isn’t the slightest bit embarrassed about walking in on me? I don’t trust myself to speak, so I just glare at him.
“Can I get you anything, like a drink?” he offers. “Or maybe offer you a hand…?”
“You could offer me some privacy?” I suggest, my body shaking with rage.
“Privacy, huh?” He grins at me. “Sure. I’ll turn around.”
He’ll turn around?
“Or you could leave, the same way you came in?” I retort.
“You seem pretty agitated over there. I’m guessing I interrupted the finale? Have you thought about trying some relaxation breathing?” he suggests, “it’s supposed to be great for relieving tension.”
“Are you done?” I growl.
“Are you?” he asks. “Maybe you should be the one leaving?”
A surge of anger hits me. Why the hell should I be the one to leave when he’s the one in my room? I wrestle myself up so I’m sitting on the edge of the bed, my knuckles white from clinging onto the sheet so tightly. While I’m at it, why am I the one who’s embarrassed?
If I can’t get myself off in the privacy of my own room—
I stop, mid-thought as I look around, an uneasy feeling creeping into my stomach. The clothes scattered outside the bathroom. The freaking guitar leaning against the couch that I somehow neglected to notice. The champagne. The note…there was no upgrade.
I’m the one in the wrong room.
And I was seconds from climaxing all over Brix Wilson’s bed.
My heart pounds as a trickle of sweat makes it’s way down the back of my neck. I swat it away, while trying hard to think up an excuse for being in his room that sounds even half plausible.
Who am I kidding? There’s no getting out of this. Not without me looking like a complete fuckwit. Sure, they gave me the wrong key, which makes this whole mess not my fault, but as if he’s going to believe that.
I take a deep breath and reach for my clothes, somehow managing to dress myself while showing minimal skin. Not that he hasn’t seen everything already.
God, he’s seen more of my than I have.
I stand up, nearly losing my balance. My legs feel like jelly, so even walking feels like a hard task, but I have to get out of here. And the longer I wait, the harder escaping is going to be.
“I have to go,” I mumble.
“So soon? You went to all this trouble of getting in here and performing for me, and now you’re leaving? Where’s the harm in hanging around for a little longer?” he presses. “I was looking forward to seeing how far you’d go.”
I stalk over to the door, avoiding all physical contact with him. He can’t wipe the smirk off his face, but I can’t let myself think too hard about what just happened, or I’ll lose control. As I close the door behind me, I hear his voice call out after me;
“What, I don’t even get an encore?”

It's Complicated (Awkward Love #1) by Missy Johnson
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A rip roarin' good time!!

Standalone romantic comedy. Full of lots of pounds and awkward and hilarious moments. Hard, pun intended, to put down. I started and finished same day! No tissues needed... well unless you are Ms. Henderson. Anyway back to the review. This story is well thought out, very descriptive, and extremely relatable!! Even though you know you shouldn't you can just picture yourself following in Anna's footsteps. And now a bit about the story...

Anna's mother left when she was very young. Now she's in college and her father's dating life is more exciting than hers. That is until she looks out her window one night. There is her hot neighbor, Nick, stripping out of his clothes. She knows she should turn away, but she can't. She has to see if the rumors are true. Not only is he older, but he's also her dad's best friend. She shouldn't keep watching right? But then he catches her in the act... no what'll she do!!!

Favorite passages:
- “I mean, I do have a big load, but so long as I keep on top of it…”
- I was beginning to feel like Cinderella, only it wasn’t a shoe I was trying to squeeze into.

I Can Explain ... (Awkward Love #2) by Missy Johnson
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The truth will set you free...

Standalone office romance / romantic comedy. This story has many awkward and hilarious moments. If it were a movie they would likely all be in the trailer ;) And I'm sure a few have happened to someone out there... like the time you land on your boss balcony in your underwear! A little frustrating at times with the lack of communication, but then if they just were HEA from the beginning we wouldn't have a story. And now a bit about the story...

Alana works for Chase's assistant. She's a recent college grad and her duties include fetching dry cleaning and coffee. She knows she could learn so much from Chase, if only he'd notice her. As the two get to know each other better Alana's responsibilities increase. Now to see if she's up to the challenge, can you really keep business and pleasure separate?

Favorite passage: My reaction decides how big this is, which means I can end this before it even begins.

Too Much Information (Awkward Love #3) by Missy Johnson
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The poor girl in cubical number nine!

OMG! So many hilarious situations Laura gets herself into!! This review title reminds me of the song love potion number nine... though I do not recommend trying this to find love ;) Though this is book three in the series they can be read in any order, no characters in this one from the first two. And now a bit about the story...

Imagine being ready to start your new job, but being in need of those services and embarrassingly so. Laura decides to go out of her way to get to a hospital and see a doctor. Luke is not only the doctor who sees her, he's staying with his best friend (her brother), is starting work at the same hospital she is next week, and as it happens even ends up staying at her place. Now how will the two manage and how can she keep the cubicle girl story from getting out...

Favorite passages:
- “I’m getting a really good vibe from you, Laura. I think I’m really going to get a buzz out of talking with you tonight.”
- “You mean you wanted to make sure I wasn't decomposing on the floor?”
- But the thing about life is that nothing is ever really forever. It’s only forever until it’s not.
- “I hear there are some great sex toys on the market you might want to test out.”

Comfort Zone (Awkward Love #4) by Missy Johnson
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Off the charts awkward...

This is a hilarious tale with some of the most embarrassing moments you can think of... From your professor telling you he's been reading the instant messages you've sent taking about your sexual fantasies staring him to your mother offering to let you try out her sex swing!! Full of strong and lovable characters. Grammy fighting with her dementia and desire for satisfaction, Andrew the cat who's allergic to shellfish, the professor motorboating the stripper, her mother being attacked by a multitude of tiny Pac Man style penis, and it just goes on and on. Doesn't that sound like the best trailer you've seen in a while? And now a bit about the story...

Becca seems to have one embarrassing thing happen to her after the other. If you've read the other Awkward Love stories, you'll remember her as Laura's friend that bought the sex toy gift card. Anyhow, now she's in vet school and lusting after her professor. The only problem, besides the obvious, that he knows and is at the bachelor party she holds for her best friend and can't remember a thing about the night. Luckily she finds some evidence on social media and the internet, but it doesn't answer all her questions and gets her in hot water too.

Tequila, it can be your best friend AND your worst enemy at the same time!! I hope you enjoy and LAUGH like I did!!!

Favorite passages:
- “It only takes one mistake to ruin everything.”
- Confidence is usually something I have in spades, but when it comes to guys, all bets are off.
- “Relax, I’m far from intoxicated,” she assures me. “Then it must have been my charm that had you stumbling at my feet.”
- “What’s her name? Ellery? She sounds like a freaking vegetable.”

Don't Go There (Awkward Love #5) by Missy Johnson
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

How dare he!

Crazy hilarious romantic comedy.  School day crushes turn to enemies and then are forced together.  Throw in a road trip between Vegas and Seattle, dangerous drug lords, hitch hikers, an ex getting remarried and it is a rip roaring good time.  And now a bit about the story...

Katie used to have the biggest crush on Adam.  She even wrote him a love song at 14.  Then the unthinkable happens, he turns into a jerk and she can't stand him.  Years later at a karaoke bar she is drunk and sings the song.  Her also drunk cousin records it and sends it to her entire contact list, which of course Adam sees.  Now the two are trying to keep said cousin safe, retaliating against each other, oh and sharing a few hotel rooms.  Can't wait to see the sparks fly when they give in!!

Favorite passages:
 - “Can’t sleep?” I ask. “No. Too wound up, I guess.”  “There’s a button you can press for that.” I can’t resist baiting her, even if it lands me back on the floor. “I can show you where it is, if you like.”
 - “Feels good to be naughty, doesn’t it, Katie?” His sleepy voice cuts through the silence. I don’t answer, because I can’t. “Next time you do that? I’ll be participating.”
