Synopsis

When a tragic accident leaves Rhane Evans -- lead vocalist for the rock band Fate's Crazy -- permanently unable to speak above a whisper and kills the love of her life, she moves across the state to pick up the pieces. Shattered, Rhane struggles to understand what happened the night of the accident, an accident everyone blames her for, even though she wasn't driving the car. Enter Ian Callahan. He's the one person who may have a more tumultuous past than Rhane. Though they try hard to deny the sizzling attraction between them, it proves nearly impossible. When Ian's troubled past threatens to tear them apart, they begin to believe happiness isn't in their cards

My Review

The opening chapters of this book threw me a little because just as we were finding out more about the main characters we jump forward, missing out a huge chunk. It felt a bit disjointed to me and I had to go back to make sure I hadn't missed something

Rhane Evans is the lead singer of rock band Fate's Crazy. Her boyfriend, Dalton, is lead guitarist. They have a turbulent relationship due to the arguments they have, but they always make up afterwards. They are on the verge of hitting the big time when something happens which takes it all away in a flash.

We pick up the story several months later, with Rhane in hospital. Rhane can't remember the accident which put her there, and left Dalton gone for good. Her windpipe and voice box were damaged in the accident, leaving her unable to talk above a whisper.

She leaves with her uncle Thomas to begin trying to rebuild her life, and the house which she inherited from her grandmother a few years before. Thomas arranges a permanent care-giver for Rhane, a former army nurse called Gwen. After a few initial misgivings Rhane and Gwen develop an understanding, leading to friendship.

Thomas also arranges for a local contractor to come in and begin fixing up the house. Rhane is instantly attracted to him but cannot allow herself to fall further for him. But Ian makes it very difficult as he flirts with her, and works his way into her life.

However Ian also has family issues he is dealing with, and any possible relationship between them has to wait while he tries to work these out. Misunderstandings occur which has Rhane drawing even further away from Ian. I started wondering if these two would ever just get their acts together and work it out! I wanted to bash their heads together at several points in the story.

Rhane deserves a happy ending, but the memories, and lack of certain ones, from her past make it very difficult for her to move on. When she finally decides she can actually move on her faith in Ian is shattered into tiny pieces. Can Ian get the chance to explain or will Rhane push him so far away there is no coming back this time? Will Rhane ever be able to trust Ian again or will the past rear it's ugly head once again?

As seems to be the way these days, the author is also writing a sequel called I Breathe You, Too. It will be in Ian's POV and covers the same timeline as I Breath You. I will be interested to read it as it should explain Ian's story a lot more.

The author has written a heartwarming story which had me almost shouting at the characters several times. After my initial feeling of missing something, during the first few chapters, Rhane's story drew me in. The friendship she forms with Gwen, and the storyline involving a stray dog, were what struck me most while reading through the book. A good read overall.
